The Cambs ZZ was run in conjunction with the EM. It always seems to be held a bit late in the year as it was this time, the problem with that is not having time for shoot offs and that was what happened in 2018. But never the less, our top man was Kevin Flitton taking the Cambs title as he did last year. He was also joint High gun for the EM. Our top Lady was Jane Bell who took both Cambs and EM – well done folks. Thanks to Rugby & District for holding the event – much appreciated.
The eagle-eyed amongst you may have spotted an error or two in the Champ of Champs. This has now been rectified – apologies. In spite of what some of you might think – we’re only human 🙂 Please find the latest Champ of champs here.
Well folks here is one more and getting near the end of the year but never the less just as exciting for me to watch. This held on two layouts and was a shared affair with our neighbours Suffolk and Norfolk, both of them also holding their County Championships as well. The day was busy with pool shoots on the ABT / SB / and DTL going on, so plenty to add to the excitement during the two days. So in fact a mega weekend for the trap shooter. Our top Shot and now county Champion was Paul Ward who shot a magnificent 79. He turned the tables on Phil Barnard after the ABT as it was Philip who just missed out today to Paul. The Vets went to Richard Croft, the ladies to Michele Conway and once again the Colts to Ethan Lord. Well shot folks and many thanks to CGC for their hospitality once again.
A Ladies’ Team pulled together at the last minute, consisting of Sarah Christensen and Michele Conway was entered into the National Intercounties All Round at Northampton S.G. ……reader…we won! Michele Conway also bagged lady High Gun. It was a very close match with Sarah and Michele beating the runners up, Northamptonshire, at their home ground by just two targets.
Michele Conway and Sarah Christensen receiving congratulations from Kenny for winning the Ladies’ NIC All RoundNIC All Round 2018 winners Michele Conway and Sarah Christensen
We’ve had some fantastic shooting put in by some of our County shooters in regional and national events.
Juniors
Our Juniors of Kieran , Taylor , And Archie finished just 2 targets behind the winning team at the National Intercounties Sporting last Sunday at Orston . Not sure what else went on at the moment. Well done lads super job.
This year Olympic Skeet was kindly hosted by Aaron and Natasha Heading at The Priory GC. Four Cambridgeshire shooters took part: Freddy Killander won on 96 and Tony Randall took Vets’ on 47.
Some more very good shooting took place, bearing in mind all the shooters taking part could be classed as part time ABT Shooters doing it only a few times a year, but you wouldn’t know it as the standard was top drawer. Also added to the fact that many had to travel from here to Northampton and some the other way on the same day to take part in the Intercounties All Round.
L>R Ethan Lord, Tim Jones, Hazel Whiten & Phil Barnard
One such shooter was Philip Barnard on the last squad of the day but this didn’t stop him from posting a 93 and the winning score just pipping Richard Morris by 1 and Paul Ward by 2. Richard Morris took the Senior title so didn’t go home empty handed. So that was 93/92/91, how close was that !! Paul Ward shot the only 25 straight as well. Well shot gents. The ladies went to Hazel Whiten who did on the way overcome all the other top ladies in Cambridgeshire getting an 80, (just pipping me), well shot Hazel. The Vets was taken by Tim Jones with an 87 and Tim was at one point on 48 from the first 50. The Colts was taken by the ever improving 12 year old, Ethan Lord, with a 65 using a 20 bore semi firing only one shot, very impressive. Well done all of you and many thanks to Priory for their hospitality.
Held at Cambridge Gun Club on the August Bank Holiday weekend, which was run over both days. What a mixed weekend it was, very cold, very windy, and as if that wasn’t enough we had rain as well. But the rough weather didn’t do enough to stop Marcus Lord and Chris Morris from posting a pair of 96’s. Both shot on the Sunday, so that made it a fair result.
L>R Peter Cook, Ethan Lord and Marcus Lord
The ladies was taken by Michele Conway with an 84 and the Vets to the solid Peter Cook with a 92. The battle of the younger ones was taken by Ethan Lord just pipping Julian Berridge, Ethan shot 76 and Julian shot 74, but as it happens Julian has just moved into Junior status so both had trophies to take home. I can’t remember the last time this shoot was contested by both colt and junior categories so perhaps things are looking up for us.
Apart from the Championship Title which was shared between both Marcus and Chris there was the senior title also being shared for the year. Many thanks to Cambridge GC for their hospitality.
