Young Shooters’ Day

Saturday 27 April 2024 at 10.30am

Priory Clay Target Ground

Further to previous postings, the Cambridgeshire CPSA Committee is pleased to confirm that it will be holding a Young Shooters Day at Priory Clay Target Shooting Ground on Saturday 27 April 2024 at 10.30am.

The purpose of the day is to encourage young Shooters (colts and juniors under the age of 21) to come along and try shooting different disciplines.  Experienced shooters, coaches and team captains will be on hand to give guidance and advice.

On the day you will have the opportunity to try DTL, ABT and ESK.

The day is for Cambridgeshire shooters only and for those who already have some experience of shooting and access to their own gun. It will not be possible to provide guns on the day.

Refreshments will be available to purchase on the day from the club house.

To register your interest in attending the day and to book a place please email or  Facebook message Tim Jones with your name and contact details by 31 March 2024.

And they’re off!

Your webmaster is still playing catchup, but at least you’ve now got an updated Committee page, and an updated but sadly depleted Grounds page – we’re down to 3 CPSA grounds in the county now. Two competitions (OT and ABT) have been shot, with UT coming up this weekend at Nuthampstead – sign up in advance via OT/ABT reports coming shortly, along with an updated fixtures list – once again apologies from your webmaster for slow progress.

Cambridgeshire ABT 2024

10th March 2024, Nuthampstead Shooting Ground

We were greeted with some foul weather for our second Cambridgeshire Shoot of the season – 100 ABT at Nuthampstead Shooting ground on Sunday – and it didn’t ease up all day.

Despite the weather conditions however, 13 Cambridge shooters took on the challenge and after some fine shooting Philip Barnard once again came away with the ABT Championship Trophy. Scoring 91 ex 100, Jane Bell shot well to win the ladies trophy with a 77 and Gary Thatcher took the Veterans’ and Mens’ title with an 89.

We had no juniors or colts shooting the competition his time, perhaps next year some young shooters will take up the challenge?

Our collective thanks go to the team at Nuthamsptead for looking after us all so well and keeping us dry.

Cambridgeshire OTR 2024

Well that’s the first of this year’s championships completed. The day started with heavy fog to start with, raising doubts about whether you can see the targets at all, but within an hour if seemed to lift into a reasonable day for February. All the water around made it somewhat damp under foot.

Not a high turn out for Cambs, but with there being 4 counties contesting their own championships, it made for 9 squads for the day so as not a bad turnout for the ground (with additional shooters for the sporting as well). The scores were a little wayward and most not knowing what the course was, but we all kept plugging along hoping it will get better! It was a close run thing by the end of the day as most of our scores were very close to each other. Our results were:

Cambs Champion: Christopher Cheng 75

Vets’ and Mens’ champion: Tim Jones 72

Unfortunately no ladies juniors or colts were in attendance. Full scores here.

Our thanks to Ed and Nicky and all their staff for looking after the shooting and the food side of the day. We look forward to our next visit in 2 weeks’ time for the ABT on 10th march 2024 get booked in to come and join in.
