Cambs DT Nuthampstead 21st April 2018

This was the East Midlands and Cambridgeshire Double Trap Championship.  5 Cambs shooters attended and after a very close match between Matt Sheldrake and Tim Jones.  It did come down to the last round, but Tim took the title with his score of 116 with Matt finishing on 114.  Many thanks to Nuthampstead for hosting this event

Cambs DTL Cambridge Gun Club 15th April 2018

Well another eagerly awaited Championship is upon us the Cambridgeshire DTL Championship.  This is always well attended and today was no different.  10 squads were lined up in the hope of taking home the coveted DTL trophy.  From the go it looked rather like last year’s champion may be doing the same this year having started with 50/150 with half the shoot done and dusted.  But unfortunately thing

M Sheldrake, P Ward, E Lord and R Croft

s don’t always go as planned as it didn’t for Richard Morris on this day but he completed the next 50 targets to finish with 99/292 as did his dad Chris Morris.  We still had a strong contingent to follow with the likes of Matt Sheldrake and Paul Ward (who last won this trophy in 1992) and Philip Barnard sporting a new Beretta which works at skeet having shot a 96 at Nottingham in the EM championship in the morning, before getting to Cambridge GC to change the chokes for DTL.

The weather was good but for a varying wind making the odd target either raise or drop but not too bad considering the disastrous last few months.

As the scores started coming in it was clear that it was not possible to pick a clear winner as yet.

But at the end of the day we had a clear Champion in Paul Ward with a 100/296 closely followed by Matt Sheldrake with 99/295.  To add to the excitement Richard Croft came in with a 100/295; Richard being a Vet had it sewn up for his first ever county championship.  Geoff Howlet a Suffolk shooter put in a super 299 to take High Gun over all, but lucky for the Cambs shooters he couldn’t take the Cambridgeshire Championship.

Results were:

Champion         Paul Ward

Senior              Matt Sheldrake

Ladies              Hazel Whiten (not for the first time)

Colts                Ethan Lord

Vets                 Richard Croft

AA Richard Morris

A   Chris Morris

B   Brian Jacobs

C   Jason Pereira

Well done to everyone who entered and many thanks to Cambridge Gun Club once again.

Cambs ESK Eriswell Lodge 1st April2018

Well we were not disappointed as on the day 60 entries were recorded at the desk of Eriswell Lodge. Later 2 shooters did call off but 58 according to Johnathon the ground manager this was a record.

Also, it’s worth saying we had the gods shining on us with the weather.

When arriving I spoke to last year’s winner Albert Taylor as he was leaving for another shoot he had posted 99.  When I reached the Clubhouse I found Chris Morris had done the same.  Well I’m thinking we should have a good team this year.

During the day I saw a lot of very good shooting and some very good scores posted. It didn’t take me long to see that we had a good selection of Ladies and Colts to make up the numbers as well.

At the end of the day Albert Taylor and Chris Morris with their 99’s were the winners.  This meant a shoot off was imminent and with the Bev Waller trophy at stake this meant that any shooter on the day could take the trophy, so a shoot off to decide that had to take place.  The shoot off consisted of two Suffolk shooters and our own Chris Morris.

This was doubles on 4 and was well worth watching. Eric Chapman took the honours and was a worthy winner.

That over results were:

Chris Morris was Cambs County Champ. 99

Albert Taylor is Senior Champ 99

Vets went to Tim Jones 97

Colts Archie Bowman 93

Ladies after a shoot off with Janet Maguire went to Ami Hedgecock 89

AA Chris Morris 99

A   Glen Moulding 97

B   Peter Gaskin    95

C   Marcus Webb  90.

I note that Archie Bowman shot 2 x25 straights on his way to the colts trophy , It also looks like we have ladies Colts and Vets a plenty so the Intercounties at Northampton on the glorious twelfth (12/8) should see a very good entry from Cambs
