Martin Barker
It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Martin Barker. He was a talented coach and passionate supporter of trap shooting, in particular Double Trap. His tireless work in ensuring that Nuthampstead Shooting Ground offered the best training facilities possible for our Olympic and Commonwealth hopefuls, both new and old, has helped numerous team GB and England team shooters; as well as those just starting out in the shooting world.
Our thoughts are with his family; Nicky, Edward and William, at this difficult time. Martin was a great man and he will be sorely missed.
The Thanksgiving Service for Martin will take place at 1.30 pm on Tuesday 6th September 2016 at St George's Church, Anstey Near Buntingford, Hertfordshire SG9 0BY. After the Service, refreshments will be served in a marquee at Nuthampstead Shooting Ground to which everyone is welcome.

You don’t always see them and they’re not in your face. They are just looking after our Safety and being low key about it.

Obituary – Tony Manning
Tony Manning was an amazing natural shot, a CPSA member for over 80 years and was still shooting at the age of 95 – with a little help from his friends Rod and Lesley Gifford, who regularly went round the Sporting course at Cambridge Gun Club with him on many occasions including his 95th birthday. His real love was game shooting and when I last saw him, a few days before he died, he was talking about his love of game shooting and the many years he had been enjoying the sport of shooting.
He learnt to shoot with a hammer shotgun, which had been his grandfathers, and shot his first clay target in 1931, it was a Down the Line target from a manually operated Eley Plus trap, his shotgun licence had been bought from the local Post Office for ten shillings and the cartridges were £5 per thousand. In 1932 he bought himself a hammerless, auto-ejector model for £20/10/0 the first of many guns including a Browning A1 bought just after the war for £85. His keen interest in all things shooting was brought home to me by his memory for these details.
During World War II all recreational shooting was suspended and Tony was in the RAF flying missions as a WOPAG – Wireless Operator and Air Gunner. He said that Clay Shooting was used in initial training for potential air gunners to explain deflection shooting. Tony’s decorations include the Burma Star.
He joined the CPSA very soon after its formation and received the first ever ‘long service award’ from CPSA which was announced at the Cambridgeshire AGM in January 2014. He held his original number of 156 until his death on New Year’s Day 2016. He will be sadly missed.
Dates for FITASC and ESP have now been added to the calendar.
