Cambridgeshire Universal Trench Championship 15th May 2016 Nuthampstead SG
Sunday 15th May started off as a smashing day with super shooting weather and what turned out to be a good day at Nuthampstead Shooting ground, at least for David Christensen! I am not quite sure how the names of these international disciplines come about. Perhaps the real name is lost in the interpretation, but today we have the Cambridgeshire Universal Trench. Another fairly tough trap discipline consisting of 5 traps all going away. The traps are set to different speeds and angles and as you may guess, it is a fairly hard way of spending your Sundays - but this shows the fine quality of the shooters.

Cambridgeshire’s best turned out just like the gladiators of old in a fight to the death. It was also the County Championship for Essex and for Hertfordshire, and knowing most of the Essex shooters, I was sure we were in for some good shooting....I was not wrong! At the end of the shoot, 4 shooters went to a shoot off to determine their County Champions. 2 from Essex and 2 from Cambridgeshire, the Cambs shooters were our priority of course, but the other shooters were also of top quality.
The result of the shoot off had David Christensen and John Russo tied with one target to go - both on 23. That was good shooting at this game! One target later, David was Cambs County Champion as John dropped his last target. In fact, David was the top shot of the shoot off out of both Counties on a score of 83. John's disappointment must have been numbed a little as he still won the County Veterans title with a score also of 83. The Ladies went to Sarah Christensen, also with a very good score of 73.
