ESK Champions

Cambridgeshire ESK Championship 2012

The day started much the same as most of the summer; some rain and a bit of wind. The first squad going out included Colin Fordham, who only found out the shoot was on 24 hours before. He shot 50 straight to start and then moved on to the next range to miss 4 targets. A lot of the entrants were to do the same as both the ranges were worlds apart, but nevertheless a fine 96 to set the day going...

Most of the 33 entrants came later in the day finding it necessary to have more than one fix in one day by having a practice before the championship started.

The young lad, George MacFarlane, again only found out about the shoot the day before as he had been on his hols and just picked up my message to remind him we would like the trophy back. His mum very kindly got him to the shoot via Lakenheath and he shot a super 98; not for the first time at this ground.

Peter Cook started on the 12 O'clock squad and smoothly shot a cool 100 straight, then just sat back to watch the other scores come in.

Rod Gifford came in with a 98, Michele Conway did the same, and eyes were on Chris Morris to see if he could match or beat the scores already on the board. Alas it was not to be, managing only a 94.

Peter Gaskin shot 50 straight, changed ranges and guess what? Two 21s to finish with 92.

Thanks to Daren Parsons for getting the Bev Waller trophy back from the late Mike Bradley's Family.

So the Cambridgeshire Champion 2012 is Peter Cook, who is also the Bev Waller Trophy winner.

A shoot off was needed to sort out the Vets and AA between Rod Gifford and Michele Conway. Rod won, so Michele had to be content with the Ladies'.
