This was another windy and wet affair but it didn’t stop the Cambridgeshire faithful from turning up to have a go at some very testing targets. At the end of the day our 2018 county DTL Champion made it look easy posting an 85, very good in the conditions of the day, but it went right to the wire with Darren Stanford coming in with an 82. The Vets was very tight with 2 shooters on 80 Richard Croft and Peter Simpson count back had to be used as both shooters had left the ground so Richard Croft came out on top, for the second year in a row.

This shoot clashed with the Inter counties Skeet at Northampton, so unfortunately we did lose some entries, but never the less we had a good few shooters and the standard was top notch. On the Saturday, Philip Barnard went home with a 92. Having spoken to him he felt he should have done better, and that proved to be the case as on the Sunday David Hewitt Hulin also shot a 92. As Philip was flying the flag for the county at Northampton he couldn’t get back for a shoot off, giving David the well earned title of County Champion. The Vets title was also a very close affair with 5 shooters within 1 target, with Richard Croft coming out on top. For Amelia Smith, it is her first year as a competitor and in fact she hasn’t been shooting a year yet, so she will be happy with the County Ladies Championship to take home. Results are:

April 15th & 16th The Cambridgeshire All Round Championship.

This is the second Championship of the year closely following on from the Olympic Skeet but as expected this one was much more popular with the Cambs faithful.

The All Round as per its title consists of some of the most popular CPSA disciplines:

Single Barrel, derived from DTL, but only one shot is permitted

ABT two shots are allowed but only scored as one point whatever shot hits the target

English Skeet; and

English Sporting,

and so the total is out of 100.

As we know the cream will always rise to the top, so even on a windy cold weekend, that was what happened with a score of 88: just 12 away can’t be bad. This is what Taylor Hedgecock shot, to become County All Round Champion. There was a chasing pack lead by last year’s Champion Philip Barnard who shot 87, how close is that?

The ladies went to Elizabeth Cook (last year’s Champion) and the Colts to Archie Bowman (again last year’s Champion). The Vets went to Gordon Webster showing his class, and the Juniors also went to Taylor Hedgecock.

Many thanks to Cambridge Gun Club for a very good enjoyable day.

[Thanks to Allan Wright for the report]
