Report from our County Chairman:
Sunday 15th April, leaving home 9.15 am went back in doors for my Bob Allen coat and scarf it was freezing thought perhaps it might be a bit different when I get to Cambridge Gun Club, I was right it was windy as well as being very cold.
This didn't seem to worry the keen shooters as the car park was filling up fast. The bacon was sizzling and the shooters were eager and getting ready to start. I expected a good turnout as sportrap is perhaps a bit more exciting than sporting and I was not wrong: the shoot was full to capacity with 60 shooters. I think the day was perhaps spoilt a bit with the very strong winds that sent the flag like a board from time to time. Layout 1 (Club House) seemed to be the most enjoyable judging by the scores, with many people in the 20s. It was the only layout to record perfect 25s (by 2 people). Having said that the eventual winner, Phil Gray, complained that it was too easy - despite only recording a 20 on that layout. Which seemed funny, as he then went on to shoot 88 and is now Cambridgeshire Sportrap Champion. The Runner up was Steve Whitwell with a super 84, followed by Pietro Mastroeni with 81, who was the only Cambs shooter to shoot a 25 straight on any layout. This shows how good Josh Pearson was: a Junior but still finishing with an 80 - well shot Josh that was good! Our top Vet was once again Peter Garrod with a 77 not bad for a man who fell off a roof just a few months ago. We had a good field of Vets 10 in all and Rod Gifford followed very close with 76. The Colts were thin on the ground, but the winner Georgia Moule had the Ladies' trophy to take home having won both categories. Well shot Georgia. So after the dust had settled, the trophies were awarded as follows:
Champion | Phil Gray | 88 |
Vets' | Peter Garrord | 77 |
Ladies' & Colts' | Georgia Moule | 66 |
Juniors' | Josh Pearson | 80 |
60 Entries. £185 on the raffle (proceeds to the county coffers) thanks to - guess who? yes, of course, Leslie. Super job.
Thanks to the ground and staff for their hospitality
